How did you feel working with so many restraints (given objects, limited materials, limited time)? Did this make you more/less creative?

I enjoyed the task at the beginning with the given context user and location with the limited time. I felt like that gave us the basic ideas and warmed up our brains. The Time limitation also put a pressure on me to not overthink and just put down ideas. The ideas that I’ve put down for laughs ended up being a good idea which led me to create my laced tomato nipples bikini top made out of ropes and paper. At first I wanted to make the bikini top out of ropes since it would look more like an actual laced piece however I didn’t have a lot of time so I solved my problem by cutting out strips of paper and lacing layering them instead then laced a piece of rope on one side of the bra to create an interesting asymmetry look. The lemon piece was made under pressure since I had to finish the other side of the bikini top which took more time. The lemon piece was based on the word education and children so I chose to go with a nostalgic teamwork game where the two people using this object have to put their legs into each of the holes and try to walk whilst balancing the lemon. It was quick to make but looked very clean and effective. Furthermore, I actually enjoyed the limited materials since there are less complications and less to figure out what to use and just focus on the idea itself.

Was this product design task what you expected? Which aspect of the task did you enjoy most/least? Why?

I didn’t expect to enjoy product design if I am being honest however, I ended up enjoying making the products using the fruits. The watermelon one was the most interesting since we had all day to do it and the idea of the piece was fun and I was excited to see it work. However, I wished that we explored more stuff that doesn’t incorporate just fruits so I get more idea of what product design actually includes. I kind of leaned towards something that was wearable unintentionally (not all of them) so I am unsure of what product design can lead to.

I didn’t enjoy it in the sense that some of the people in my group weren’t eager to actually do the project. However, with the help of the people who were bothered to do something I think that it is nice to have everyone help each other out bit by bit and not having to figure every detail out by myself.

Print photos of the designs and final products, fruit shopping photos, maybe do some research on product designers and product design itself
